FAIRHOPE, Ala. - A month-long tribute to children’s author-illustrator Ashley Bryan is underway at the Fairhope Public Library as part of its "Art at the Library" program for kindergarten through fifth-grade students.

“Students listened to a reading of Ashley Bryan’s ‘Beautiful Blackbird’ then created African tribal masks using bold colors and feathers to represent the birds from the story,” stated Melissa Ott, youth services assistant, in a library news release.

An exhibit of Bryan’s artwork, “Rhythms of the Heart,” featuring over 70 illustrations will be on display in the Giddens Conference Center at the library through the month of February.

Bryan will host presentations and discussions of his work at the library at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14 and the same time on Tuesday, Feb. 15. The public is welcome to attend those events, and K-12 field trips can be scheduled through the Youth Services Department at 990-0209 or at youthservices@fairhopelibrary.org.

A “Meet the Artist” reception will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Tuesday, Feb. 15 when Bryan will discuss his work and autograph books, which will be available to purchase.

Visit the library’s youth calendar at www.fairhopelibrary.org for regularly scheduled programs and special events.
