Ashley Milner currently serves all schools and grade levels in our school district as the school psychometrist. Milner works primarily with the gifted education program and evaluates students for special education services.

“My office is at Daphne Elementary School where I taught gifted education for 10 years and I still consider this school my ‘home away from home,’” Milner says.

This is her 26th year working in the Baldwin County School System, with her teaching career beginning in 1989 at Perdido School.

“I taught first and third grades at Perdido and then third grade at Stapleton Elementary School,” Milner says. “I served as a Gifted Education Specialist for 10 years, serving Loxley Elementary, Silverhill Elementary, Daphne Elementary and Daphne Intermediate, which is now W.J. Carroll Intermediate School. Serving all schools in our school district has been a blessing as I have met so many wonderful people in all these schools.”

Milner truly loves teaching and still misses having her own students today.

“I knew at an early age I wanted to work in a profession dedicated to helping people,” she says. “Initially, I wanted to be a nurse. After a year of nursing courses and beginning clinical experiences, I realized nursing was not for me and I wanted to work with children. I wanted to be a teacher.”

What Milner most enjoys about being an educator is developing a relationship with students and parents, and having the opportunity to make a positive difference in their lives.

“As an educator, you take ownership and pride in the progress your students make, and you are proud to be part of their lives as they grow, mature and become successful adults,” Milner says.

Milner is very proud of each and every student she has taught and their unique personalities and contributions.

“I am a firm believer in the importance of being a life-long learner,” Milner says. “We must always strive to challenge ourselves, to learn new things and to be inquisitive. I recently completed my doctorate at the University of West Florida and I am now wondering what my next challenge will be.”

When she isn’t working, Milner spends time with her family, primarily watching football and enjoying water related activities.

“Both of my boys play college football and have been active in many other sports during their school years,” she says. “My oldest son, Cullen, is currently an assistant football coach at Spanish Fort High School and will graduate with a degree in education from Huntingdon College in May. My youngest son, Chason, is a freshman at the University of South Alabama where he play football for the Jags. My husband, Ben, and I attend football games on Friday nights and Saturdays.

SOMETHING UNUSUAL ABOUT YOURSELF: Something that my students and coworkers may not know about me is that I am afraid of heights and things that travel fast. As much as I love Disney World, my favorite place in the whole wide world, I do not ride roller coasters or things that travel fast. I love the rides such as “It’s a Small World” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
