Susan Brush, right, is the winner of the Thomas B. Norton Library’s inaugural Adult Summer Reading Program.

Susan read more books than anyone else did and, to allow her to continue to “water her mind”, she was awarded the grand prize of two large planters filled with beautiful flowers and tropical plants.

Congratulations also goes out to Mary Louise Brush who took second place and was only a few books behind Susan. Information on the summer 2011 program will be announced in the spring.

Local artists

Thelibrary in Gulf Shores announced a new program featuring the work of local artists. The first Artist of the Month display will open in September with the work of Deanne Fincher.

Not only is she a talented artist, the library is happy to introduce Deanne as the newest member of the Thomas B. Norton Library team.

Born and raised a Lower Alabamian, she currently lives in Elberta with her husband and two sons.  After graduating from Foley High School, Deanne attended Faulkner State Community College where she obtained her Associates Degree in Art in 2003.  Her preferred medium is acrylics but her work also includes pencil portraits, oils, and charcoal paintings.   Deanne’s artwork will be on display in the foyer and throughout the library during the month of September.
