BAY MINETTE, Ala. — On Tuesday, Dec. 28, at approximately 9 a.m., Baldwin County Sheriff Deputies responded to 101 Lucy Drive in Bay Minette, to a report of a domestic situation where shots had been fired.
Upon the deputies’ arrival, they discovered a male subject identified as Leroy Taggart detaining another male identified as Troy Barton.
Circumstances revealed that Troy Barton came to the residence of his mother-in-law looking for his estranged wife.
Once he was allowed access to the house, he produced a sawed off .410 gauge shotgun and ordered his mother-in-law, Linda Allen, to the floor. Leroy Taggart was hiding behind the open door and grabbed the shot gun and a struggle ensued, the weapon discharged once but did not strike anyone. Taggart was able to overpower Barton and restrained him until the deputies arrived.
Troy Barton arrived at this residence with a sawed off shotgun and a duffle bag filled with three packs of zip-ties, two rolls of duct tape, five pillowcases and a bag of medication.
This incident apparently stemmed from a domestic situation in which Troy Barton and his estranged wife, Tammy Barton, are in the process of a divorce.
Tammy Barton was staying with her mother.
Troy Barton was injured during the scuffle with Taggart and was transported to the North Baldwin Infirmary, where he was treated for minor injuries to his head and released.
Troy Barton was arrested for possession of a short-barreled shotgun and was booked into the Baldwin County Correction Center, where he is being held without bond.
Additional charges will be brought later tomorrow after further investigation and interviews with other witnesses and victims.
