BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Baldwin County grand jury will review evidence against an Atmore man who allegedly brandished a short-barrel shotgun and carried duct tape and other restraining items while entering his mother-in-law’s Bay Minette home Dec. 28 in an attempt to kidnap his wife.
Troy Avery Barton, 46, of Main Street, was arrested the following day and charged with possession of a sawed-off shotgun, reckless endangerment, second-degree unlawful imprisonment and attempted kidnapping, according to Baldwin County District Court records.
He remains jailed on a $250,000 bail.
Barton allegedly carried the gun, duct tape, plastic tie straps and pillow cases to the Lucy Drive home of Linda Allen on Dec. 28 in an attempt to take his wife, Tammy Barton, court records state.
Barton allegedly told Allen at gunpoint to get on the floor, then discharged the weapon into the floor, missing Allen.
He then apparently left the scene.
