BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile will be overrun with FROGS April 25 as the Autism Society of Alabama hosts the 2009 Walk for Autism.
"FROGS is For Research, Outreach and Giving Support to the Autism and Asperger community," said Jennifer Robertson, information and referral coordinator for the Mobile branch of the Autism Society of Alabama.
Autism affects one in 150 people and is still on the rise. The Autism Society of Alabama assists families through conferences, help finding resources and providing emotional support.
There is still time to register for the walk and raise money, and a new feature this year has made it even easier to do just that.
"You can set up a fund-raising Web site," Robertson said. "That way your friends and family can donate online."
To set up a fundraising Web site, go to firstgiving.com/autismalabama and the site will walk participants through the process. Pages can be personalized with photos, testimonials and stories, and has a feature to send an email alerting family and friends to the destination.
Walkers can be individuals or can form a team. Registration is also available online at autism-alabama.org. Registration is $25 per walker and includes a T-shirt for the event.
Call the Mobile office at (251) 259-5553 or visit the Web site at autism-alabama.org.
