GULF SHORES, Ala. — Gulf Shores police responded to a 911 call on Thursday regarding a child abandoned in a vehicle in the Target parking lot at Pelican Place at Craft Farms.
By the time officers arrived, the three-month-old child had been removed from the vehicle and the mother had been located inside the store.
“Apparently the mother jumped out of her car and forgot about the baby inside,” said Gulf Shores Police Chief Arthur Bourne. “The baby was probably not in the car for more than 10 minutes.”
A passer-by noticed the child in the car and immediately called 911.
The mother and baby, who were vacationing from Georgia, were taken to a local hospital where they were evaluated and released.
“As part of our investigation, we contacted DHR, but there were no signs of abuse or any other type issue in the past,” Bourne said.
Police reports were also sent to DHR where a follow up investigation is likely, but Bourne said it was doubtful there was any kind of negligent intent.
