MOBILE, Ala. — McGill-Toolen Catholic swept the boys and girls 6A Section 1 meet at the Yellow Jackets’ Harris-Banks track and field complex Tuesday.
Several 6A athletes from Baldwin County excelled in key events and qualified for the state meet this weekend at Gulf Shores.
Tyrell Holloway of Daphne and David Orr of Robertsdale each won two events. Holloway sprinted to first in the 100 meters (10.81 seconds) and the 200 (22.57) while Orr won the javelin with a throw of 171-feet, 3-inches and the discus with a 148.00.
Foley’s 4x100 boys relay team of Devonte Koen, D’Marsjae Casey, Bob Pugh and Caleb Autrey edged Williamson to win the event with a time of 43.68. Daphne, anchored by Holloway was a tight third. Roderick Tate, Javakiel Brigham and Ben Chom took the early legs for the Trojans.
Fairhope’s Pydrae Carroll took second in the long jump, second in the triple jump and fourth in the 110 hurdles.
The Pirates 4X800 relay team took second with Nic Fasanello, Shawn Hinton, Richard Zimmerman and Tyler Pharez passing the baton.
Quentin White of Foley and Zack Houston of Daphne tied for second in the boys high jump.
Fairhope’s Michael Phillips was third in the shot put. In the 1600, Fairhope’s Hinton was fifth, Robertsdale’s Tyler Phelps sixth and Jordan Moore of Fairhope seventh.
In the 3200, Fasanello was fifth, Phelps sixth and Alex Guillory of Daphne seventh.
In the 6A girls division, Kellen Shirley won the girls javelin for the Robertsdale Golden Bears with a toss of 104-feet, 1-inch to complete the only girl-boy event sweep by a Baldwin County pair.
In the 1600, Hannah Evans of Fairhope was third behind neighbors Sage Blackwell (2nd for McGill-Toolen) and ahead of Ebie Douglas (4th for McGill-Toolen). Blackwell and Douglas both reside in Fairhope. Trista Phelps of RHS was sixth in the 1600 and the 3200. Ashlie Anderson of Foley was sixth in the 800.
Fairhope’s 4X800 team of Emiley Gray, Hannah Evans, Abby Sealy and Megan Midkiff took third. Midkiff finished fourth in the girls triple jump. And pole vaulter Madison Fotheringill was third for the Pirates with a 9-foot jump. Emily Tarlton of McGill-Toolen, who lives in Montrose, won the event at 11-feet in the finals.
Carman Carlos won the 800, 1600 and 3200 for the Jackets accounting for the single most individual points total in the meet.
