BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Commission voted Monday in a special emergency meeting to accept an additional $3 million that it had requested from the state of Alabama to increase protective measures in Baldwin County due to the effects of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
The Commission will use the funding to place an additional 100,000 feet of boom in the Eastern Shore (from Point Clear to Weeks Bay), Wolf Bay, Roberts Bayou, Stone Quarry Bayou, Peterson Branch, Soldier Creek and many other environmentally sensitive areas that have been identified, as well as plan for development of fiber connectivity for response activities at county facilities.
“We are working to be proactive in identifying and protecting our environmentally sensitive areas,” said Charles “Skip” Gruber, Commission chairman. “As the needs in Baldwin County continue to come along we plan to do whatever we can and ask for whatever assistance we need to protect Baldwin County.”
