DAPHNE — The Daphne Public Library will host Jubilee Mornings on Wednesday, Aug. 1. The guest speaker for this event will be John A. Jackson, director of the Baldwin County Department of Archives and History. His topic will be “Baldwin County: 200 Years of History.”
In addition to speaking about the history of Baldwin County, Jackson will present information on updates to the collection and services of the archives.
Current projects pursued by Jackson at the archives include the development of Baldwin County’s bicentennial celebration slated for 2009 and the designation of a state and national scenic byway for the Alabama Highway 225/59 corridor from Spanish Fort to Little River along the Baldwin/Monroe County line.
He is also coordinating an oral history project conducted by archives interns that will focus on areas of interest such as education, industry, community history and ethnic diversity.
Along with supervising the daily activities of the archives, he is active in promoting the soon-to-be-released archival newsletter and in speaking to local groups about the importance of maintaining the county’s heritage.
The public is invited to hear Jackson speak at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1 in the conference room of the Daphne Public Library.
The library is located at the corner of U. S. Highway 98 and Whispering Pines Road in Daphne. Refreshments will be provided by Friends of Daphne Public Library. For more information, call the library at 621-2818.
