BAY MINETTE, Alabama — In front of a packed house for Senior Night Baldwin County High School’s Lady Tigers defeated the Robertsdale Lady Bears 54-33 on Tuesday.
After a pair of three-point jump shots from Austin Richardson the Lady Bears jumped out to a 6-11 lead but that didn't last long as BCHS closed out the first quarter tied at 11 with seven points coming from Darnisha Maye.
The second quarter saw seniors Latreka Jenkins and Aprica Bradley along with sophomore Jennifer Modispacher scoring four points each for the Lady Tigers while Aundrea Curry scored three points for RHS, giving the Lady Tigers a 23-14 lead.
The third quarter was again all BCHS as the Lady Tigers outscored Robertsdale 19-7 with all seven points coming from 6'1" sophomore Madeleine Pettite. Baldwin County closed out the third quarter with a 42-21 lead.
Robertsdale came back in the fourth quarter, staying even with the Lady Tigers as both teams scored 12-12 but the damage was done as BCHS took the 54-33 victory.
Jenkins, along with another senior Ashley Lewis led the Tigers with 10 points followed by teammate Latia Pullum with nine. Maye closed out the game with eight points. Richardson led her Lady Bears and the game with 12 points and Pettite hatd 10. Baldwin County closed out their homestand with an 11-10 record while Robertsdale with a 5-17 record travels to Fairhope Friday night.
After the game Jenkins was honored with a plaque and game ball for scoring 1,000 points in her career at BCHS.
In the boys game, BCHS defeated Robertsdale 78-49 Tuesday night.
Larry Rogers and Apollo Daily opened up the game for the Tigers scoring a combined 10 points before Robertsdale's Matthew Maddox scored four points on his own. BCHS ended up closing the quarter with the 18-9 lead.
Robertsdale outscored the Tigers 19-14 in the second quarter with Maddox scoring eight points, but Baldwin County led the score at half time 32-28.
The third quarter saw Baldwin County's Marcus Johnson soar with four lay-ups giving him eight points and the Tigers went up 49-38.
The fourth quarter got a little heated as several technical fouls were issued for both teams. Baldwin County outscored the Bears by a 29-11 margin. Xavier Dortch hit eight-of-eight from the free throw line and ended the quarter with 14 points. Baldwin County High finished the game with a 78-49 victory.
Rogers finished his home career out with 18 points with Johnson adding 15. Newcomer and senior Mikala Lamar had 10 points for the Tigers.
Maddox closed out the game with 12 points and teammate Dionta Banks had 10 points.
Robertsdale will play Fairhope at Fairhope Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
