DAPHNE, Ala. — Impact 100 Baldwin County will hold their 2011 Membership kick-off event Monday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. at Fred Corte’s Farm in Daphne.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to invite a friend or someone you think might like to join us next year,” Impact 100 stated. “Let’s have an impact in 2011.”
Impact 100 is a community of women seeking to transform lives in Baldwin County by awarding high impact grants to nonprofits in the areas of arts & culture, education, environment, preservation and recreation, family and health and wellness.
Impact 100 memberships are open to women who can donate $1,000, all of which goes to an annual grant award. The Baldwin County group currently has 149 members and it aims to continue increasing that number.
“We’re going to have the members there and they will bring potential members. We will have food and we will have Outward Bound (representatives), and they will make a speech about their organization,” said Becky Sappington, membership representative for Impact 100. “Then we will have someone to speak from Impact 100 to explain the process of how to become a member and how to apply for a grant and how the grants are chosen. It will be a very well-organized and informative meeting.”
Applications for the 2010 grant were submitted by local nonprofits in the summer. Impact 100 members spent the past several weeks reviewing grant proposals and selecting finalists, and they awarded the $150,000 grant to Outward Bound, a national education organization that tries to help people of all ages inside and outside the classroom.
The group donated $80,000 the first year and $92,000 the second year.
To qualify for consideration of the grant, a non-profit organization must present a programmatic, capital, start-up or research-oriented project that affects Baldwin County residents.
