BAY MINETTE, Alabama — The Baldwin County Commission agreed Tuesday to compile an animal-control pamphlet for distribution countywide in veternarian offices and other locations spelling out regulations regarding pet ownership.

Commissioner Charles “Skip” Gruber said he has received a number of calls regarding pet complaints in his district and requested that staff put together a simple pamphlet that could be placed in veterinarian clinics and other locations to make the public aware of the regulations that the county has in place for unincorporated areas of Baldwin County.

The animal regulation currently in place for the unincorporated areas of Baldwin County was approved by the Baldwin County Commission on March 7, 1990.

The draft pamphlet was discussed at the Nov. 8 work session and the Commission asked staff to move forward with creating a final product which was reviewed during the Nov. 22, work session.

Public information coordinator Paula Tillman has compiled the pamphlet with the assistance of Charlotte Plumb at the Baldwin County Animal Control Center to create a cohesive finished product.

The pamphlet includes the following guidelines:

1 Dog owners must keep their dog or dogs confined at all times within the limits of their property. If the owner chooses to remove the dog from their premises they must remain in the owner's presence.

1 Any person violating this law may be found guilty of a misdemeanor and could be fined up to $50.

This law does not apply to dogs running at large in any city or town limits that require a license tag be kept on dogs.
