ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — Robertsdale football stadium reverberated with the sounds of the season on Tuesday night. Football season that is.
Amidst a busy fall football season, the high school bands of Baldwin County were in the spotlight as they took turns presenting their 2009 Half Time Shows for a packed house of parents, students and fans.
Daphne High School’s band, which provided the National Anthem, took to the field first performing their “Hanging by a Thread” show featuring “City of Delusion,” “Only Hope” and “Johnny One Note”.
Next up was Spanish Fort High School presenting music from “The Phantom of the Opera”.
Gulf Shores, which is marching the largest band in the school’s history, energized the crowd with songs from the British Invasion.
Following the Dolphins, Baldwin County High hit the field to perform “The 70’s Show,” featuring great songs from the 1970s, followed by a stellar performance from Fairhope High School with their “Over the Top” half time show.
No one could stay in their seat once Foley High School hit the field. Probably the largest and loudest band of the evening, Foley literally ‘rocked’ the stadium with their show “Songs You Can Sing Along To” and indeed that is what the crowd was doing.
Opening up with a Journey classic “Don’t Stop Believing” the crowd was up and singing right from the start. The band followed that with a tune from Heart, and band members were dancing, clapping and encouraging the fans to join them in singing Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock and Roll.” The band slipped in a little KISS as well, and ended the show in concert fashion.
Robertsdale ended the High School portion of the evening with a “007” show.
The grand finale came from a special performance by the newly formed University of South Alabama Marching Jags band. The entire stadium erupted in applause even before the band marched onto the field.
The talented Jags band jumped from hit to hit, playing and marching to such tunes as “Stairway to Heaven”, “Good Times Bad Times”, “Kashmir”, “Immigrant Song”, “Rock and Roll”, “Black Dog”, “Communication Breakdown” and “The Ocean”.
At the end of the show, former Baldwin County High School Students were recognized as being part of the USA band.
