DAPHNE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Watershed Coalition Steering Committee, an alliance of Baldwin County elected officials, real estate and development interests, chambers of commerce, environmental groups, and other key stakeholders, will hold a public meeting at Daphne City Hall on Oct. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about the establishment of the coalition, the proposed constitutional amendment that will be on the ballot in November, and ideas from the steering committee on formation of a public corporation for managing stormwater. There will be an opportunity for public input.
This November, Baldwin County residents can choose whether to vote on Local Amendment 1, a referendum that would allow the Baldwin County Legislative Delegation to establish a public stormwater corporation. Since 2008, the steering committee has been studying examples of stormwater corporations in other parts of the country to determine what has worked and what has failed. To help inform the decision in November, the committee developed a conceptual plan for a stormwater corporation in Baldwin County, including ideas for organizational and fee structures. If the amendment passes in November, the committee’s concepts can serve as a starting point for dialogue with the Baldwin County Legislative Delegation regarding the design of legislation to create a stormwater corporation for Baldwin County.
