BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Tracy Roberts of Spanish Fort has announced her candidacy for the District I seat on the Alabama State School Board. Since 2004, she has served residents along the Eastern Shore and in north Baldwin County as District 7 representative on the Baldwin County Board of Education, including two years each as vice-president and president. She said she guided board decision-making through the loss of $61 million in state funds due to proration and led the first nationwide superintendent search ever conducted in Baldwin County. She said she is an advocate for public engagement to inform education policy worked with fellow school board members and district administrators to undertake a comprehensive, independent audit of school system finances and operations, also the first of its kind for the Baldwin County Public Schools. “Alabama’s economic future depends on the brainpower of our rising business leaders and workforce,” Roberts stated in a press release. “In spite of these uncertain financial times, it’s essential we do everything it takes to prepare all students for a successful transition to college and career.”
