BALDWIN COUNTY- Baldwin visitors and residents can now use a new county app to find and learn about historic sites while driving around the county.
The “Baldwin County Historic Tours” is now available to download in the Apple and Google store, Baldwin County Archives Director Felisha Anderson said Tuesday, June 15.
“We really wanted to make it a priority to accommodate a variety of individuals with different physical and educational capabilities,” Anderson said.
The Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development Council gave the county a $5,000 grant to start the app. The program will shed light on historic places in the county, Anderson said.
The app offers users the option to drive or walk and includes audio, text, videos, interactional photos while using GPS to provide a tour route for users according to a county brochure,
Taking a peek into the past, users will be able to visit sites such as the Revolutionary War battlefield in Spanish Fort or the Grand Hotel in Point Clear. With options in North Baldwin County the Eastern Shore and Central Baldwin, a total of 11 sites have been added to the app.
The app will expand to South Baldwin County soon, adding sites such as Fort Morgan, according to a statement on the county website.
“Now we’re focused on finding those hidden gems within the county that people aren’t aware of. It’s exciting to see how we’re educating the public through this wonderful app,” Anderson said.
The “Baldwin County Historic Tours” application is available on most smart phone’s or tablet's app store.
