LOXLEY, Ala. — The American Junior Golf Association tournament at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley got under way Tuesday with three boys and two girls from Baldwin County in the field of 96 competitors.

Point Clear’s Alex Green, Fairhope’s Bailey Kimmitt and Mason Seaborn of Montrose all qualified in the boys division. Caroline Beebe of Daphne and Cynthia Navis of Point Clear are the only Baldwin County girls in the tournament.

Seaborn made a 25-foot putt on the 18th green to finish the first round of the event at even-par 72 Tuesday. He was tied for third, two shots off the lead going into round two Wednesday of the 54-hole event, but struggled with a 4-over par.

The girls second round was halted due to weather Wednesday afternoon. Both divisions were set to conclude Thursday.

Seaborn, who’s best round on the course is 68, said it was a decent start.

“That was a good putt to finish with,” he said Tuesday. “It kept me at par instead of over. Definitely not as good as I wanted, but decent and I don’t think it put me out of of the tournament. Just need to make a few more putts and keep my drives in play and I think I'll be all right.”

Jake McBride of Hartville, Ohio took the lead Wednesday after 36 holes at 3-under par total. Seaborn was tied at seventh with Green and Kimmitt trailing.

Mobile County’s Robby Shelton IV of Wilmer was in fifth place with a 1-over 145.

In the girls tournament, Michelle Butler of Dunedin, Fla. turned the first nine at 5-under and finished round one's 18 at 4-under Tuesday and was holding the lead after 27 holes when play was halted Wednesday. With 54 holes remaining Navis was 9-over and Beebe was 13-over. Mobile’s Gabi Oubre’ was in between at 11-over.

The AJGA Junior at Steelwood is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association. The yardage for the tournament on the Loxley course is 6,995 for the boys and 5,932 for the girls.
