FAIRHOPE, Alabama - A total of 74 senior athletes from Alabama have been selected for the annual North-South All-Star football game, set to be played on July 18 at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
Kevin Rose of Bob Jones will serve as head coach for the North squad and Smitty Grider of Beauregard will coach the South. Gulf Shores head coach Ben Blackmon and St. Paul's coach Steve Mask were selected to be assistants for the South team. The North won last year’s game 34-12, but the South holds a 29-23-2 edge in the North-South series which began in 1948.
The South roster includes Spanish Fort running back Sammy Tolbert, Gulf Shores defensive back Daniel Laborde, Robertsdale quarterback Alphonso Stewart and Fairhope defensive back Dre Ervin.
The teams were announced by Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association, on Wednesday and include the state's top senior players.
