The Baldwin Pops Band will begin rehearsals for its 11th concert season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.
Due to elections being held at the Fairhope Civic Center, the band will rehearse in the Robertsdale High School band room on that day, and return to Fairhope for its next rehearsal on Sept. 18.
Around 85 musicians participate in the band. Area musicians who are interested in joining should contact Randy Davis at 621-0814 or Roger Jones at rpjones@gulftel.com for membership criteria.
The band will begin its 11th concert season with a 5:30 p.m. Founders’ Day Concert on the Bluff in Fairhope’s Henry George Park on Oct. 14. On Oct. 18, the band will perform in Gulf Shores at 7 p.m. at the Erie Meyer Civic Center as part of the Gulf Shores Out & In Concert Series.
The Baldwin Pops is a community band whose members are volunteer musicians primarily from Baldwin County. Since its inception in 1987, the band has performed in Fairhope, Foley, Gulf Shores, Daphne, Bay Minette and Pensacola.
The 2007-2008 concert series includes 10 concerts, ending with the Fairhope Fourth of July Celebration. All concerts include music for a variety of musical tastes, are family oriented and are free to the public.
The band is funded by Baldwin County, Faulkner State Community College, a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, cities sponsoring concerts and by individual and corporate donations.
