Baldwin Pops to perform at an outdoor concert Sunday in Daphne

DAPHNE, Ala.—You can spend an “Evening with the Pops” enjoying the music, the sunset and the outdoors on Sunday at Daphne’s Bayfront Park.

The April 10 concert will begin at 5 p.m. and is part of the Baldwin Pops Sunday Sunset Concert Series. If inclement weather strikes, the concert will be moved indoors.

Joe Reimer, director for the Pops, said the concert will include about 10 pieces and last about an hour and a half.

“It will be a varied selection of music including marches, broadway selections, classics and solos,” Reimer said.

The Pops’ selections will include “Fiddler on the Roof,” arranged by Warren Barker, “First Suite in Eb” by Gustav Holst, “Jupiter” by Gustav Holst, “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” by David R. Holsinger, “The Thuderer” by John Philip Sousa and an original piece by local composer Roger Jones titled “On the Eastern Shore.”

The concert will also feature eight new members to the musical ensemble recommended by their band directors. The students are competing for a $1,000 John Allen scholarship to be awarded on April 24. Ten local high-school seniors in the Pops include Trey Fyock and Perrin Windham from Daphne High School.

Reimer hopes a crowd comes out for the concert.

“It is going to be great,” he said. “It will be a great family event with great music. I think it will make for a really nice afternoon. We are hoping to get a large audience.”

The concert is sponsored by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the city of Daphne.
