FAIRHOPE, Ala. – The 6A site B cross country sectionals were held at Volanta Park in Fairhope last week.

McGill-Toolen swept first place in the boys and girls divisions.

The top three teams in each division advanced to state this Saturday. For the girls, McGill won with a score of 18, Fairhope was second with 58 points, Foley third with 78 and Daphne fourth at 88.

For the boys, the Yellow Jackets 27 score was good enough to edge Fairhope's 30. Daphne was third at 99, Foley had 125, Robertsdale 134, Satsuma 152 and BCHS 170.

Fairhope coach Tim Yahr said the meet went well and he was happy that both of his teams qualified for state.

"The teams executed the race plan very well," he said. "They have proven to be a true team. Running hard for their teammates. They will give up and stop pushing when they are just running for themselves, but they are running for each other and that raises their performances to a higher level. We are excited as we head north to represent Fairhope at the state meet."

The highest finishing runners from Baldwin County were Hannah Evans (third overall 21:14) in the girls and Rebecca Citrin Pober of Daphne (seventh overall, 22:02.) Foley's Rachel Pigott was 14th overall and with Megan Thompson, Chelsea Gholson, Felicia Guthrie, Nikki Moore and Mary Reagan helped the Lady Lions to qualify as a team.

Individually, several other girls from Baldwin County also qualified including Daphne's Kayla Olson and Victoria Miles. Kara Wells and Michelle Phillips of Robertsdale and Amber Williams of Baldwin County High also made the cut.

Fairhope's boys' near toppling of the Jackets was led by Shawn Hinton (third overall, 17:29), Jordan Moore (fourth, 17:48), Nick Fasanello (fifth 17:50), and Richard Zimmerman (sixth, 17:52). Thomas Grace was 12th for the Pirates. Daphne's top finishers were Alex Guillory at 14th (18:41) and James Crossant 15th.

Individual boys from Baldwin County who also qualified include: Tyler Phelps of Robertsdale (13th overall) followed by Foley Lions Henry Bailey, Erik Cabrera and Nicolas Cruz.
