• Daphne wins Area 2 title, will host area tournament/Toros take runner-up spot

DAPHNE— The Trojans finished the 2016 regular season in first place with a 7-1 Class 6A Area 2 league record on a 6-2 senior night win over visiting Baldwin County High. Makenna Pierce got the win from the circle and helped herself with a solo homer in the third inning to take the lead 2-1. Karsen Pierce followed with another home run and DHS went on to score three more in the inning.

Daphne will host the Area 2 tournament which begins May 4 (Baldwin County vs. Robertsdale at 3:30 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., Area 2 runner-up Spanish Fort will face No. 3 seed Gulf Shores. At 7:30 p.m. Daphne will play the winner of the BCHS-RHS game.

Round two begins May 5 with elimination-bracket play at 3:30 p.m.

The May 6 final round is set for a 3:30 p.m. semifinal and a 5:30 p.m. championship. A second championship game (if-necessary) is set for 7:30 p.m.
