SPANISH FORT, Alabama – Not long after Mobile Bay washed over parts of the Causeway linking Baldwin and Mobile counties, closing the ramp entrance to I-10 today, Baldwin County public school students learned they will not have to make up days at the end of the school for at least three lost this week due to Hurricane Isaac, recently upgraded from a tropical storm.
“Students and teachers will not have to make up the lost school days due to the hurricane,” Baldwin County Schools Superintendent Alan Lee said in a news release today. “This morning I sent a request to State Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice asking that Baldwin County Schools not have to make up the days. Within a short time, I received a reply from Dr. Bice granting our request. I am most appreciative of Dr. Bice's response and understanding. Our teachers and students will work hard to make up lost work. I am also appreciative that the Alabama Legislature now extends this grace through Ref. Act 2011-235 (SB271), a fairly new provision.”
As of now, county schools will resume on Thursday at the regular time, Lee said.
