MOBILE, Alabama — Baldwin County’s 5A and 6A teams and individuals sought qualification for the 2012 state track and field championships at McGill-Toolen Catholic in the dual Section 1 meet Friday and Saturday.

Baldwin teams perform well at track and field section meet

MOBILE, Alabama — Baldwin County’s 5A and 6A teams and individuals sought qualification for the 2012 state track and field championships at McGill-Toolen Catholic in the dual Section 1 meet Friday and Saturday.

Fairhope’s Pydrae Carroll won the 6A boys triple and long jumps and finished the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with second-place finishes.

Thomas Grace was third in the 800 meters. Jordan McKnight fourth in the 3200 meters. The 4X800 meter relay team of Shawn Hinton, Richard Zimmerman, Tyler Pharez and Grace were second for Fairhope. The Pirates were fifth as a team.

Foley's Caleb Autrey finished fourth in the long jump to also qualify for state.

Jessica Dailey of Fairhope took third in the girls shotput and finished fifth in the discus. Daphne’s Kaleigh Akers was fourth in the 6A girls 3200 meters. Kayla Kircharr of Daphne was third in the pole vault. Baldwin County High’s Savanna Hollis was third in the long jump. Fairhope resident and McGill-Toolen senior Sage Blackwell finished second in the 1600 and the 3200.

The Spanish Fort Lady Toros came in second to St. Paul’s in the 5A girls team rankings. Jackie Smith claimed the javelin title, took third in the 800 and led her team to second in the 4X800 relay (Katrina Garofano, Madison Copeland and Lindsey Hrabovsky) and third in the 4X400 (Garofano, Lauren Davis and Aren Valerie). Davis was third in the 100.

Hrabovsky was fourth in the 3200. Maddie Grace was fourth in the 1600. Lauren Moorer was third in both the shot and discus and Cheyenne Moody third in the triple jump.

Spanish Fort’s Grant Schumacher won the 5A boys high jump. Marcus Walton won the javelin. Chris Morehouse was third in the discus and Conner Irion took third in the 800 meters.

The state meet for 4A, 5A and 6A classifications will be at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex this Friday and Saturday.

Bayside Academy competed in the 3A Section 1 meet in Montgomery and will head to the 3A state meet in Selma.

The Lady Admirals won the event with individual wins by Alona Melendez in the long and triple jumps and the 100 and 300 hurdles. Emory Builta won the discus, Carlisle Calametti won the 100-meter sprint and the relay team of Charlotte Gill, Molly Pinnix, Bowen Spotswood and Emily Wright won the 4X800. The Admirals came in sixth in the boys with Brody Constantini the discus winner.

Some individual wild card qualifiers including some high finishers above may be determined later because statewide times or measurements, not section points or places determine the final qualifying seeding at state.

Event info: The Friday field events begin at 8:30 a.m. and running events at 9:30 a.m. On Saturday, field events begin at 8 a.m. and running events 9 a.m. $10 admission per day.

Daphne: Kaleigh Akers - 3200; Girls team - 4x100*; Kayla Kircharr - Pole Vault; Madison Fotheringill - Pole Vault; Spencer Woerner - Pole Vault; Cameron Windham - Shot Put*

Baldwin County: Savannah Hollis - Long Jump; Taquarious Adams - Triple Jump.
