MOBILE, Alabama — Baldwin County teams did not get off to a good start in the opening round of the Cottage Hill Christian Academy Holiday Invitational Tournament Tuesday.

Bayside Academy fell behind Theodore early in game one of the round-robin event but the Lady Admirals rallied back from a 12-point deficit and closed it to within four

points before back-back turnovers led to a 54-46 Lady Bobcat win. Bayside was led by Morgan Dulaney with 12, Gabby Deshotel with 11, Caroline Beebe with 10 and Danielle diPretoro with nine. Valencia Nelson led Theodore with 22. Bayside was without starting center Virginia Pittman.

In game two, Cottage Hill's Lady Warriors withstood a late run by the Robertsdale girls to take a 39-33 win in their own tourney. The Lady Bears trailed most of the game but battled to make it 35-32 with 2:08 to go. But the CHCA defense pressed and came away with the win. Madeleine Petite led RHS with 16 points and Rebecca Baker added seven. Ashley Howell and Rachel Howell led the Warriors with 12 and 11. Robertsdale was 5-of-13 at the free-throw line. CHCA made 4-of-12.

Alma Bryant dominated Parkview out of Baton Rouge, La., 54-31 in the final girls game of the day.

On the boys side, Robertsdale fell 49-44 into the consolation bracket on a frustrating heartbreaker to Faith Academy on a final-second contested no-call shot that gave FA the ball with a 1-point lead. It was the the third time the Golden Bears had lost to the Rams, and the second nailbiter of the series. It was the only game that did not go into overtime.

Alphonso Stewart had eight points and Sir Raven Curry six for the Golden Bears. Petey McClain led Faith with 21.

The Bears trailed by four 27-23 at the half and came back to tie the game 38-38 to start the fourth quarter. Five minutes later, RHS was up 44-41, but the Rams retook the lead 45-44 with 1:13 left. The Bears played for a final shot to win it, but Dionta Banks' shot near the free-throw line was blocked with 14 second to go. RHS coach Marshall Davis took a technical in protest over the block not being called a foul.
