Ballard seeking youthful status

BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Patrick Blake Young Ballard, 19, of Spanish Fort, indicted on two counts of reckless murder, filed youthful offender motions Friday during an arraignment in Baldwin County Circuit Court.

The arraignment will be postponed until a judge rules on the matter, prosecutors said.

Ballard is charged in the September deaths of cyclists William Frederick Imle and Archie Leroy Clemons.

The two cyclists were riding west on Bromley Road when they were struck and killed by a vehicle driven by Ballard, according to court reports.

Ballard was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he struck the two men on Labor day.

According to court records, Ballard failed to negotiate a curve, struck the cyclists and went into a ditch before his truck overturned, ejecting him and another passenger. The two were treated and released

In June, Ballard was charged with manslaughter in the death of cyclist Larry McDuff, who was traveling south in Fairhope when he was killed on his way to Bee Natural Farm, the co-op where he tended animals and crops in return for fresh, organically grown produce.

That case also went to juvenile court and charges were later dropped at the request of McDuff family members.
