ORANGE BEACH, AL — If you are sitting in traffic this busy weekend, it’s likely you’ll be sitting there with some vintage automobiles and hot rods.
The Bama Coast Cruise will be back at The Wharf for the sixth straight year today and Saturday and a celebrity from the 1960s will be on hand.
Cue the jangly guitar riff and the scenes from 1313 Mockingbird Lane. Eddie Munster is coming to town. And he’s bringing his TV family’s hot rods with him.
Butch Patrick, a.k.a. Eddie Munster, will be at this year’s show all weekend along with the Munster Koach and Dragula. Fans can meet Butch, get an autograph and take a picture with the Munster Koach and Dragula.
Bama Coast Cruise is free to the Public and includes free parking. The cars will line Main Street for easy viewing.
City Administrator Ken Grimes said last year’s show had 500 cars and more are expected this year.
Show organizers say the goal with Bama Coast Cruise was to create an inclusive show that welcomes anyone who loves cars and enjoys cruisin’ the open road.
There are no restrictions to the vehicles that can be entered into the show. The organizers’ motto is: Bring your dream ride and cruise with us.
One of the highlights of the show is the 14-mile cruise Saturday from The Wharf, down the scenic beach highway and back. This allows beach goers to enjoy the parade, and our participants are able to enjoy the sugar white beaches of Alabama’s Gulf Coast.
The 2015 Grand Prize Giveaway Car will be a 2005 Chrysler PT Beach Cruiser Cabriolet. Last year’s 1969 Volkswagen Beetle was won by Doug and Brenda Hancock Of Dothan.
Organizers started the car giveaway in 2013.
Also on hand will be internationally famous, West Coast Pinstriper and Master of the Fine Line, Von Hot Rod. Attendees are encouraged to bring something by for him to stripe.
Saturday night popular local band Shaker Revival will be playing live music Saturday nigh from 6-9 p.m. as Bama Coast Cruise closes out the 2015 event.
The band will be set up at the “After Party” hosted by The Hot Spot Music and Grub, The Wharf’s newest venue for music.
