Bankhead Tunnel closing for repairs this weekend

MOBILE, Ala. — Weather permitting, the Bankhead Tunnel on U.S. Highway 98 will be closed for ramp repairs from Friday, Sept. 16, beginning at 9 p.m., until Monday, Sept. 19, at 5 a.m.,

Traffic will be detoured to the Wallace Tunnel on Interstate 10 during the closure.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. The Alabama Department of Transportation thanks motorists for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.
