Banner plane crashes on island in Orange Beach

A banner plane tried to land and flipped on Walker Key, an island just inside Perdido Pass in Orange Beach on Monday afternoon. No serious injuries were reported.

Kevin Lanford, battalion chief with the Orange Beach Fire Department, said the plane flipped over and other than an abrasion, there were no other injuries reported to the two occupants.

"Our crews responded and are already back in service," Lanford said at 4:15 p.m. Monday.

Walker Key is one of three island in the area along with Bird Island and the popular Robinson Island. Boaters frequently beach their boats on Robinson Island and bring grills and generators and spend the day.
