Helen Mary Aebli Barnett, 100, of Loxley, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010 at her home where she had been lovingly cared for by her family and three devoted caregivers, Louise Valentine, Carolyn West and Mary White.
She was born in Minnesota on Dec. 23, 1909; she came to Loxley with her family around 1917. She was the oldest child of Henry and Maude Aebli. She rode the train to Baldwin County High School and graduated in 1927. She was a dedicated member of the Community of Christ in Robertsdale.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, V.M. “Red” Barnett Sr.; brother, Robert Aebli of Foley; one nephew and two grandchildren.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth (Dave) Passell of Prescott, Ariz.; two sons, Lawrence Duane (Jan) Barnett of Niceville, Fla., and V.M. (Tammy) Barnett Jr. of Loxley; five daughters, Dorothy Jones of Byron, Ga., Alice (Odell) Nims, Waneta Magon, Wanda (John) Huggins, all of Loxley and Catherine Barnett of Silverhill; six nieces, 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18 at the Community of Christ Church in Robertsdale. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Loxley.
