BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Bay Minette’s mayor and two city council members are heading to Huntsville to attend the four-day Alabama League of Municipalities 76th annual convention which kicks off Saturday.
The conference will include round-table discussions, exhibits, such panels as, “Ask Your Attorney,” and sessions on such topics as resolutions, ethics and grant-writing.
Bay Minette City Councilman Mike Philips, who plans to attend, said he enjoys the “round tables and being out fellowshipping with others to find out how their cities handle things.
“I like to meet the people,” he said in a telephone interview. “No matter how big the city is, we all have a lot of the same problems in common. The classes are good, but I get a lot more from just sitting and meeting and talking to people. It’s really beneficial to the council members who go.”
Bay Minette City Councilman Melvin Bradley will attend his 10th conference this year, and agreed that networking is important.
“We go there and talk to the other city council members,” he said in a telephone interview. “They talk to us about their problems, and we talk to them about ours. We listen and try to apply them to our problems at home.
Both city council members said that animal control is a common issue among cities.
Bradley said that he often learns from city leaders from Mobile and Jackson.
Bradley, Philips and Bay Minette Mayor Jamie Tillery will return to Bay Minette Tuesday.
