BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Bay Minette City Council will consider a resolution to approve an agreement with the state for the Community Enhancement Fund for the Universal Playground during its next regular meeting today at 6 p.m. at Bay Minette City Hall.
J.J. Hall, Bay Minette parks and grounds supervisor, announced during the council’s April 4 meeting that the playground will open on June 1.
According to Hall, funding for the project came from a state grant, of which $250,000 has already been fulfilled.
Bay Minette Mayor Jamie Tillery discussed the playground at that same meeting, saying the design would allow non-handicapped children to play together with special-needs children.
Also tonight, the council will consider a resolution to accept the McLeod deed, which would sell the city the McLeod family's land for $1 with provisions that the land be used as a park, and in memory of John and Virginia McLeod.
The property, located at lot one, block 52 of the Hand Land Company's addition to Bay Minette, must also retain dogwoods and camellias, hold two or more public benches and display a memorial plaque.
Also tonight, the council will:
— Consider registration costs for Police Sgt. Andrew Bitetti, Police Sgt. Rene Peebles, Police Sgt. Rodney Kirchharr an d Police Sgt. Richy Davis to attend Dale Carnegie Training starting Tuesday, May 3 for $4,800.
— Consider Police Sgt. James Eissler’s attending the Safe Schools Training Conference in Gulf Shores June 5 -10 for $150.
— Consider registration costs for Eissler, Police Sgt. Jason Lamey, Peebles and Police Investigator Ray Dixon to attend the Federal Bureau of Investigation Instructor Development Course Aug. 22-26 in Stapleton for $320.
Also at tonight’s meeting:
— Bay Minette Fire Chief Phil Bryars will give a presentation on helping tornado victims in Dekalb County.
— A presentation on Huntingdon College's first graduating class will be given.
The city council meeting will be preceded by a work session at 5:30 p.m. today.
