Bay Minette Council to consider purchases

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Bay Minette City Council will consider bids on a John Deere tractor, thermal-imaging cameras and self-contained breathing apparatuses during its upcoming meeting Monday evening.

During the 6 p.m. meeting at Bay Minette City Hall, council members will consider a $38,983.20 bid for a four-wheel, John Deere, utility tractor cab for the Parks and Grounds Department.

The council will also consider a bid to provide the Bay Minette Fire Department with thermal-imaging cameras and self-contained breathing apparatuses.

As previously reported, these items will be funded by a $242,573 federal grant and $12,767 from the city of Bay Minette.

Bay Minette City Clerk Rita Findley explained during a telephone interview that these items have previously come before the council.

“These are things that are already on the budget,” she said. “They (the council members) just have to accept the bid.”

In other business, the council will consider training requests for:

* Cpl. Kevin Gandy to attend the Advanced Vehicle Contraband Concealment Class in Baton Rouge, La., Aug. 30-31 at a cost of $498.48.

* Karlin Still, John Biggs, A.C. Ulmer, Todd Stewart and Kathy Smith to attend the Certified Alabama Planning and Zoning Officials Class in Mobile June 10-11 at cost of $1,580.

Also Monday, the following will make presentations:

* Bay Minette Recreation Director Kelly Johnson.

* North Baldwin Animal Shelter.

* Baldwin County High School Tigers baseball.

* North Baldwin County Coalition for Excellence in Education.

* Pamela Coffman, art teacher, and Brooke Earls of Bay Minette Middle School, who won the state Visual Achievement Award.
