BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Tuscaloosa attorney Patrick Sims will depart Bay Minette at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on the last leg of a 454-mile cycling tour to raise money for the state’s two Children’s Miracle Network hospitals: USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Mobile and Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham.
Volunteer riders are being sought to complete the last day of the cycling benefit which will leave Bay Minette’s Wal-Mart Stores Inc. parking lot on McMeans Avenue and conclude at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear.
Day rider registration will be prior to the 6:30 a.m. departure. Registration is $75, which includes breakfast, water and rest stops, lunch, route sheets and support for the day, according to Alabama’s Log a Load for Kids, which organized the event.
Tour volunteers will be available to take riders and their bicycles to the Grand Hotel if they choose not to ride the full day. Volunteers also will transport riders to the starting point for $25.
Sims began the ride Oct. 7 in Auburn. He has cycled an average of 75 miles a day, with overnight stops in Prattville, Tuscaloosa, Demopolis and Monroeville.
Since its inception in 1992, Alabama’s Log a Load for Kids program has dispersed more than $5.6 million to Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, according to a press release from the organization.
