Bay Minette moves forward with sidewalk project

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Phase three of a sidewalk system connecting Bay Minette schools is set to begin soon.

During its regular meeting Monday, the Bay Minette City Council awarded a bid for the project to Bay Shore Construction for the amount of $218,089.
According to Bay Minette Mayor Jamie Tillery, the project’s third phase will connect Bay Minette Elementary School to the City Pool Complex and travel beside Taco Bell and in front of Bay Minette Middle School.
“It’ll be a continuous flow all the way to the pool,” she said in the work session that preceded the council’s regular meeting.
According to Tillery, this is a continuation of a sidewalk project that began three years ago.
“This is a 20-percent matching grant through ALDOT (Alabama Department of Transportation) that was applied for in 2008,” she said in an interview after the meeting.
Construction is set to begin soon.
“But first there’ll be a pre-construction meeting,” said John Cameron of Volkert, administrator of the project’s grant, during the council work session. “Construction will be timed around the football season. The safest thing to do is wait until the regular season ends.”
Also Monday, the council:
·         Awarded a bid to Ingram Equipment for the city to purchase a regenerative air power sweeper for $97,682.50.
·         Renewed agreements with PRA Government Services LLC d/b/a RDA for the organization to collect the city’s sales tax and the discovery and recovery of the city’s business license applications.
·         Appointed  Annie Morrison to the Bay Minette Housing Authority.
