BMPD arrests robbery suspect

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Investigators with the Bay Minette Police Department have made an arrest in an early morning gas station robbery, crediting numerous tips from the public after reaching out on social media earlier this week.

According to a release issued Wednesday by Bay Minette Police Chief Al Tolbert, investigators arrested Andrew Mitchell Norred of Loxley late Tuesday evening in the Rosinton community, charging him with first degree robbery.

According to a release issued Tuesday, at approximately 3:50 a.m., officers responded to a robbery at the Summit Gas Station, 509 McMeans Ave.

At the time of the robbery, surveillance footage showed what appeared to be a slender white male in his early 20s, wearing checkered pants, grey sweatshirt and a white ball cap with the letters B R E on the right side.

According to the release the subject, who is wanted in connection with the robbery, was armed with a black handgun and left the store driving a small silver four-door sedan.

According to the release issued Wednesday, Norred was arrested still wearing some of the same clothing observed in the surveillance video taken from the store during the robbery.

Bay Minette Police credits this quick arrest of Norred to our citizens,” Tolbert said. “After making this crime available to the public on Tuesday, investigators received numerous tips from the public that aided in the capture of Norred.”

According to the release, Norred has an extensive criminal history with charges including robbery, burglary, gun possession, drug possession, theft and assaults. He is being held in the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Correction Center while awaiting a bond hearing scheduled for later Wednesday.
