Bay Minette Planning Commission OK’s new restaurant

BAY MINETTE , Ala. – Bay Minette residents should have a new place to eat in 2012, as a new restaurant is anticipated to open in January.

During Tuesday’s meeting of the Bay Minette City Planning Commission, Teresa Hicks and Jason Lamey approached the commission about their plans to locate Teresa’s Barbecue at 297 Oak St, directly behind Horizon Credit Union.
“We’re basically asking for permission to open a good barbecue place,” Lamey told the commission.
He explained that the facility would be a sit-down format, large enough to serve 82 customers at once.
“But we’re only setting up for 60,” Lamey said.
The co-owner added that the business would not be open on weekends.
“We are looking at lunch, from 11 (a.m.) to 2 (p.m.),” Lamey said. “We’re even looking at 11 (a.m.) to 6 (p.m.) Monday through Thursday and on Fridays staying open until 8 or 9 p.m.”
Hicks added that she plans to hire five employees.
Further discussion revealed that with the help of public parking nearby, the business would have enough parking spaces to adequately serve customers and that plans are set to open the restaurant on Jan. 9.
Following the discussion, the commission approved the venture.
Also Tuesday, the commission:
·         Approved a site-plan for Shunda Andrews to open a home daycare for no more than six children at 325 Kennesaw Ave.
·         Discussed Baldwin County Department of Archives Director John Jackson’s request to rezone the McLeod Home property located at 407 E. Second St., from R-3 to B-1. Jackson explained that the organization is planning to restore the home to its original 1910 state in hopes of transforming it to a place for meetings and events. Following discussion, the commission asked Jackson to provide a site plan so the project could be re-addressed at its January meeting.
