BAY MINETTE, Ala. — According to Bay Minette Police, a man is wanted for the attempted murder of a Bay Minette woman.

Officials are searching for Mario Mendez after he was recently charged with kidnapping in the first degree, unlawful imprisonment, domestic violence in the second degree and attempted murder of a female acquaintance.

“Mendez threatened a young lady. He knew her and her family,” Captain Clarence Crook said. “He said, ‘If you don't come and see me, I’m going to hurt your brother.’”

According to Crook, the situation worsened when the woman complied.

“When she wanted to leave, he wouldn't let her leave,” the captain said. “He basically held her against her will.”

According to Crook, the woman tried to escape, but Mendez caught her.

“He assaulted her — not sexually, but physically,” Crook said.

Crook said the woman is fine now, but police continue to search for Mendez.

Any information on Mendez should be reported to the Bay Minette Police Department at (251) 580-2559.
