Bay Rivers Art Guild summer art camp underway; children ages 4 and up can take week-long art classes

DAPHNE, Ala.—Summer art classes are underway at the Bay Rivers Art Guild in Daphne and in the upcoming weeks, children ages 4 and up can dabble in the world of art under the tutelage of some of the area’s foremost artists.

BRAG is currently on vacation, but the classes will resume on July 11. The classes offered July 11-15 include:

10 a.m. to 12 p.m.:

  • Exploring the ocean with Matisse and others for children ages 4-6. Carolyn Moseley will teach the course and students will use collages, watercolor and acrylics.
  • Hand Building with plaster and clay for ages 7-9. Sherry Bittinger will teach the course where children will learn how to use plaster to make a mask and make a pinch coil pot.
  • Painting with acrylics for ages 9 and up. Myra Knight will teach this course where students can learn about color, application of color, shading and blending and texture.

1 p.m.-3 p.m.:

  • Art fun using the color wheel for ages 6-8. Carolyn Moseley will teach this course, which will allow children to experiment with color.
  • Mixed-media jubilee for ages 6-8. Laurie Jaye will teach this course with a jubilee theme to create collages with various media.
  • Altered books and bookmaking for ages 9 and up. Corrine McKinney will teach this course where children will “alter” a book and learn about bookmaking.

The summer of art classes will be on display at the summer visual arts camp exhibition on July 30 from 3-5 p.m.

To enroll in the summer art camp, the enrollment fee is $50 for the first class, and for additional classes or siblings who are enrolled classes will be $45.
