DAPHNE, Ala. — The Community of Concern of Bayside Academy invites parents to Nov. 16 Internet safety presentation
“Internet Safety: What Every Parent Should Know to Protect Children from Online Predators” is set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Bayside Academy Student Activity Center, 303 Dryer Ave. This presentation is for parents only.
Tommy Loftus, law enforcement coordinator for the Deptartment of Justice, will present this program on protecting your child in today’s world of rapidly changing forms of communication.
Topics include texting, sexting — that is, sexual text messaging that may be accompanied by explicit photos — and online predators.
Loftus will address questions including:
*How can I protect my family from online predators found on Facebook and MySpace?
*What do I tell my child if she or he receives an inappropriate text message or photo?
Eighty percent of today’s youth reportedly will be involved in at least one of these two situations.
The Internet Safety presentation will include special guests Mike and Rebecca Ellis, of Montgomery, Ala. The Ellises will honor the memory of their eighth-grade son, Cole Ellis, and explain how text messages forever changed their lives last year.
