Bayside announces boys, girls state reps

DAPHNE, Ala. — Juniors Ian Shields and Hillary Donnell were recently selected to represent Bayside Academy at Boys State and Girls State this summer. Boys State will be held at the University of Alabama, June 1–7, and Girls State will be held at Troy University, June 8–13.

Boys State is sponsored by the American Legion, and Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Both organizations are among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students.

The Boys State and Girls State programs allow students to assume leadership roles in the operation of a mock state.

The activities are operated by students elected to various offices and include legislative sessions, court proceedings, campaigning, party rallies, law enforcement presentations and assemblies.

Students are also given the opportunity to participate in additional activities, including band, chorus, recreational programs, journalism, talent shows and patriotic ceremonies.
