Bayside boys beat T.R. Miller

DAPHNE, Ala. — The Bayside Admirals improved to 6-1 in their 3A Area 1 campaign with a 54-29 win over the visiting T.R. Miller Tigers (5-13, 1-6 3A Area 1) Tuesday.

The Admirals host Clarke County tonight in an outright battle for the Area 1 title. Bayside's only area loss was to the Bulldogs at CCHS earlier this year.

Bayside coach Ralph Watson said his team needs to stay focused.

“Don't want to relax too much right now,” he said. “We can't quit yet and we have to remember that. We'll finish first or second, regardless. If we win we still flip a coin because we'll have identical records but if we lose, they win the area.”

Watson was pleased with the win over Miller, but saw some let down on some assigned plays.

“Always good to get an area win like we did tonight. Our effort was good, created some turnovers with our pressure and shot the ball well. We'll have to play four full quarters to beat Clarke County. They are good, fast and will come ready, so we have to be ready.”

Bayside, 16-7 overall, hosts Clarke County (15-3, 6-1) at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Geoffrey Stinebaugh led Bayside with 14 points against the Tigers, Nelson Newman added 10, Dakota Brodie nine and Thomas Buchanan six. The Admirals made seven 3-pointers and went 9-for-12 at the free-throw line.
