DAPHNE, Alabama — The Admirals shutout section rival Houston Academy 2-0 at Freedom Field on the Bayside Academy campus Thursday.

The win, off goals by Seth Matthews, improved the Bayside boys playoff hopes and avenged their only loss in league play which was to the H.A. Raiders in overtime in Dothan last week. Gaines Minton picked and the assist for the first-half scorel. In goal, keeper Matt English recorded his fifth shutout with the Admirals’ win.

“Seth Matthews was outstanding tonight,” said Bayside coach Jamie Ferguson. “He’s worked tirelessly for the good of the team the last couple of months and I’m so proud of his efforts. Matt did a good job tonight. Had good help from Alexander Stevens and Cameron Grant in the back who were terrific along with Thomas McLendon and Collin Douglas who assisted. As a team we worked hard. Murphy Klump, Trey Smith played solid. Nick James worked tirelessly, Mike Murphy did well when he came on and Gaines Minton played well also.”

The (9-4, 5-1 section) Admirals need to win at least two more of their four remaining region matches to secure a top four finish and a possible playoff berth.

“If we can take care of business against Cottage Hill and Saraland, we should be in pretty good shape,” Ferguson said. “Of course we need, or would like, to win all of them. But we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We finish up with UMS (-Wright) and that will likely be what decides things, we'll see.”

Bayside visits Saraland Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match, then host Providence Christian April 13 and UMS-Wright April 17 with both set for kickoff at 7 p.m.
