MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Bayside Academy track and field teams wrapped up the 2011 season with impressive performances at the 1A-3A state meet.

The Lady Admirals finished second in the state with 104 meet points and the Admirals finished 10th. Several school records were set and individual titles won by both teams.

Bayside head coach Alan Foster was pleased with the season, the future potential and was grateful for the assistance he received this spring.

“Very happy for our kids and look forward to next year as we have so many returning athletes,” he said. “Also want to thank our supportive parents, administration and specifically our coaches: Phil Lazenby, Dave Whiteis and Coach ‘G’ - (Ulysses Gonzalez) for all the time they have committed to our kids.”

Alona Melendez defended her individual state titles in the 100m Hurdles (16.36), 300m Hurdles (47.94) and High Jump (5'-02")along with anchoring the BA school record setting and state champion 4x400 Relay team (4:18.35).

Emory Builta won the Discus with a toss of 96'-03". Charlotte Gill anchored the state champion 4x800 team (10:21.81) which also set a school record.

Gill also earned runner-up medals in the 1600m(5:35.03) and the 3200m (12:17.78) while scoring strong in the 800m run(2:33.62).

Bowen Spottswood ran 2:38.2 for 800m and ran on the winning 4x800 team along with Izzy Harrison who both provided impressive legs to out-duel the three-time defending TR Miller squad.

Molly Pinnix picked up four medals (playing a key role on both winning 4x400 and 4x800 Relays)while also finishing 2nd in the 800m (2:28.80 - new school record)and finishing 3rd in the 1600 (5:35.66).

Carlisle Calametti took home a gold (4x400 Relay) and a bronze medal (clearing 8’-00” in the Pole Vault, while also scoring in the Long Jump.

Emily Mace ran the 100m in 13.83 and scored a gold medal on the winning 4x400 Relay team.

Isabel Leatherbury scored a sixth place finish in the High Jump and jumped 27-11 in the Triple Jump. Sydney Chandler threw 102’-02” to score in the Javelin. Annie Bolling finished tenth in the state in the High Jump and proves to bring some more talent to the team in the coming years as she is only a seventh grader.

Jahlen Caffey, Emily Mace, Valerie Johnson and Carlisle Calametti are members of the third fastest 4x100 Relay team in the 3A division. The short-relay team returns everyone next year and looks to come back in 2012 with strong performances.

Foster said the girls team looks to be very strong next year returning everyone except senior Izzy Harrison and bringing up several middle schoolers and a few newcomers.

The boys finished 3rd in a close 4x400 Relay (3:32.89). Ethan Schneider, Geoffrey Stinebaugh, Scooter Blake and Camp Campbell coming about one second away from winning back-to-back relay titles.
