Bayside Lady Admirals edge Houston Academy 1-0

DAPHNE, Alabama — Emily Mace scored with 50 seconds left in the first half for Bayside Academy at home on Freedom Field Thursday and the Lady Admirals held on for the 1-0 section win over Houston Academy with Brittany Houseman picking up the shutout in goal.

The Bayside girls improved to 4-8-1 overall and 3-3 in their 1A-4A Section 1 standings with three league matches left in the 2012 season.

Coach Josh Montgomery said his team is hungry for a playoff spot this year which if they keep winning, they should make.

“That was a good win. We let them beat us in a shootout up there, but we actually feel pretty good about the way we’re playing. And then we have had some times when we have given up some weak goals and that’s of some concern. But except for those kinds of lapses, defensively, we are getting it done. We just need to finish more opportunities when we get them and apply more pressure all over the field. I’m happy with the effort, but I hope we get more consistent with our execution”

The Lady Admirals visit Saraland tonight for a 5 p.m. section match. Bayside will wrap up the section race over the next three weeks hosting Providence Christian April 13 and UMS-Wright April 17 with both matches kicking off at 5:30 p.m.
