DAPHNE, Ala. — The Bayside Lady Admirals got off to a strong start but faltered in the second quarter and dropped a 3A Area 1 contest 48-38 to visiting T.R. Miller Tuesday.
The loss puts Bayside at 4-3 in the area and 9-12 overall. The Lady Tigers remained perfect in the area at 7-0 and 16-4.
Bayside led by two at the end of the first quarter and by four midway into the second. But turnovers coupled with a string of missed shots turned the momentum before the half. The Lady Tigers took over and held a 22-17 lead at the intermission. The Lady Admirals fell further behind, rallied but could not close the gap down the stretch.
Bayside coach Brittany Davidson was disappointed her team failed to build on their early lead.
“We played aggressive to start out running our offense,” she said. “Then we had a lapse and made too many mistakes, crazy passes. We play well for a quarter, then we have a let up and don't finish. We let up on defense and let them back in and then couldn't get back. We have to learn to keep the pressure up the whole game, not just a quarter or a half. When we do that we will be OK.”
Virginia Pittman scored 16 points to lead Bayside, Danielle diPretoro added 10, Gabby Deshotel eight and Caroline Beebe four. Miller's Leah Brundidge led all with 19.
The Lady Admirals host Clarke County Friday at 6 p.m. to close the area schedule.
