DAPHNE, Alabama — No rest for the weary as the Bayside Admirals get ready for a big area-series battle with Washington County Friday and Saturday.

The Ads are undefeated in the 3A Area 1 race after sweeping Clarke County last weekend and picking up a 9-3 non-league win over 2A powerhouse Cottage Hill Christian Academy Tuesday.

Bayside improved to 13-3 on the Westside-Mobile road win. Chris Houseman had four hits with two RBIs, Geoffrey Brooks had two hits and an RBI, Scott Johnson and Joe Stassen finished with an RBI each. Trip Puckett threw four innings for Bayside to remain undefeated at 2-0 with a three-hit, two-runs allowed performance.

The Friday game is at Washington County in Chatom at 4:30 p.m. Bayside will host games two and three Saturday set for noon and 2:30 p.m.

Bayside finished the sweep of CCHS 7-2 and 11-1 at Grove Hill Saturday. Stassen tossed a two-hitter in the 10-run night-cap win led by Puckett's two-run homer and RBI triple. Stassen (2-0) also had three hits and drove in a pair of runs. In the matinee, Joe Vincent (2-1) tossed a two-hit victory with support at the plate by Scott Johnson (two hits, two RBIs,) and Geoffrey Brooks (two hits, one RBI).

In the Clarke County series opener at Bayside, Jacob Graddick (3-1) earned the 1-0 victory on the mound going the distance and battling through three run-tying, lead losing situations before improving to 3-1 with the narrow but huge shutout.

Graddick went the full seven innings on an economical 81 pitches, scattering seven hits, striking out four and relying on his defense to keep the Bulldogs off the plate. Brooks also singled for Bayside. "I'm proud of the team for hanging tough to get a big win for us," said Admirals coach Doug Leffard. "The defense did a great job, made some big plays. Jacob threw for strikes, made them put the ball in play and trusted his defense. But we need to start swinging the bats better.”

He added that Washington County is always a tough team.

"On any given day, any team in this area can beat another one. Clarke County won the area last year and they have a good group of seniors back. Washington County always has a good team, well coached and they always play hard and never let up. We will have to do a better job taking advantage of scoring opportunities because they are good at minimizing mistakes."
