DAPHNE, Ala.—The Admirals edged the visiting Spartans at the free throw line shooting 81 percent to 79. The extra accuracy proved helpful as Bayside Academy (2-5) built a late lead and held on for a 62-60 home win over Saraland (2-9). The 5A Spartans had defeated 3A Bayside earlier in the season at Saraland High.

The Ads built a 57-48 lead midway into the final period capped by a Buhl trey. Saraland answered with a 12-5 burst to make it a 62-60 BA lead as late as 8.2 seconds remaining in regulation. The Spartans got the last shot off from three-point range but it rimmed out for the BA win.

Spencer Newman led the Admirals with 15 points (9-of-10 points at the line), Adam Nielsen added 13, Seth Matthews 11 (6-of-6) and William Buhl finished with nine.

Saraland also had a trio of double-digit scorers led by Stanley Felder’s game-high 19 (10-for-11 at the line), Dewayn Norwood’s 12 (6-for-7) and Josh Bazzel’s 11 (5-for-5). Tyler Sims added eight points.

SHS led 34-29 at the half but a 12-6 swing in the Ads favor put BA in the lead 41-40 as the third quarter expired. The turnaround was boosted by a 3-point layup play by Craig Jones and a buzzer beater 3-pointer from the corner by Levi Bakken.

The fourth period was a shootout going to Bayside 21-20 as 28 of the 55 shooting fouls in the game took place down the last eight-minute stretch. BA sank 12-of-17 and SHS made 9-of-11.

•LADY SPARTANS DOMINATE FOR WIN AT BAYSIDE—Jhalen Caffey scored 12 and Lauren Chastang 11 to lead the 3A Lady Admirals in a losing effort against visiting 5A Saraland 51-32 Tuesday. Grayson Sheppard of SHS led all players with a game-high 21 points.
