DAPHNE, Ala. — Four rising seniors at Bayside Academy have been selected to attend the Alabama Governor’s School, June 13-25, at Samford University in Birmingham.

Emily Grant, Molly Olmstead, Sarah Shankle and Mary Katherine Shoemaker were nominated by Bayside and chosen by a panel of distinguished educators who judge the candidates on their ability, maturity and willingness to handle difficult situations successfully. Candidates must also show high intellectual and creative potential.

This is the third consecutive year that four applicants have been accepted from Bayside Academy.

During the 12-day Governor’s School, students will participate in classes, seminars and workshops led by leading academic, business and community experts in their fields. The curriculum focuses on hands-on, experiential learning in a variety of subject areas from natural sciences and humanities to social sciences and fine and performing arts.

In addition to classroom time, students will have the opportunity to go on field trips in and around Birmingham and participate in recreational activities, skits and a talent night.
